Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to see a Registered Massage Therapist?

Nope! You can book directly with an RMT, no referral needed. However, some extended health insurance plans do require a referral from a doctor for reimbursement, so it’s worth checking with your insurance provider.

Is massage therapy covered by insurance?

Most extended health insurance plans in Ontario offer coverage for massage therapy provided by a Registered Massage Therapist.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Your first visit includes a health history intake, a conversation about your goals, and an assessment if needed. The treatment itself is tailored to your needs, whether that’s focused therapy, deep rest, or somewhere in between. I’ll always check in, and you’re encouraged to ask questions or provide feedback at any point.

Does massage therapy hurt?

It shouldn’t. Some techniques may feel tender, especially in areas of tension or injury, but the goal is to work with your body, not against it. Communication is key, and pressure can always be adjusted.

What if I fall asleep (or snore)?

Perfect. That means your nervous system is doing exactly what it needs to. Snoring is basically a five-star review in massage therapy, so it is highly encouraged!
